Commonwealth Class is a joint project between the Commonwealth Secretariat and the British Council.
Organised by the British Council in partnership with the Posties section of the South China Morning Post, English Master Junior 2019 is open to all primary school students in Hong Kong.
The British Council and Posties share a key mission – to make learning English fun.
Working in groups of four and representing their schools, students will showcase their reading, writing, speaking and presentation skills.
They will also have the option to take the competition to another level by adding music, dancing, drama and singing.Previous winning essays can be found here and you can see the Law Reform Essay Competition video here.The Grand Final of the English Master Junior was successfully held on Saturday at Mega Box, Kowloon Bay.A Commonwealth Class essay competition encourages both children and teachers to submit their thoughts on a theme of relevance to the Commonwealth – the topic for 2016 was ‘belonging’.A series of resources has also been developed in partnership with The Royal Society for the creation of Commonwealth Science Class.The competition, now in its second year, aims to boost students’ confidence in English and inspire greater enthusiasm for language learning.This competition will also help students develop life skills such as collaboration, communication and critical thinking.The competition is generously sponsored by the Bar Council Scholarship Trust and offers prizes of: All awards will be presented at the Bar Council's Law Reform Lecture on 27 November 2019 at The Honourable Society of Gray's Inn.The deadline date for entries is on Friday 27 September 2019.Students had competed against more than 1500 young people from 86 primary schools in Hong Kong to get to the final, demonstrating their creativity, English language, critical thinking and teamwork skills along the way.The event was judged by Mhairi-Anne Gonzalez, Director English Language Services at the British Council in Hong Kong; Alex Ho, General Manager, Recruitment, Circulation and Syndication Business at the South China Morning Post; and Jamie Lam, Production Editor, Digital at Young Post.
